Let’s save some smiles for the tough times

Wouhhhhhhouuuuuuuuu!

I’m so excited to be coming back to Lovefest Newcastle — and this time I’ll be sharing one of my favourite things in the world: Laughter Yoga.

If you’ve never tried it before, imagine a space where you can drop your guard, giggle for no reason, and somehow end up feeling lighter, more open, and completely alive. That’s the magic of Laughter Yoga: intentional laughter that becomes real, contagious, and deeply healing.

My name is Maxime, though Mahahaxime is my name in the imaginary world of laughter. I facilitate Laughter Yoga, create and hold spaces in ecstatic dance and life / business coaching sessions. My passion is helping people reconnect with their inner joy, playfulness, and authenticity — for themselves, their loved ones, their communities, and even the planet. Through laughter, presence, and play, I love guiding people out of stress and self-doubt and back into connection, resilience, and joy.

My journey with Laughter Yoga started over 11 years ago, when I was vagabonding through New Zealand. A dear friend introduced me to the practice, and I had no idea how powerful it would be. That day, something in me woke up. I rediscovered the simple joy of play, of being present, of connecting without words.

When I came back to Australia, I kept practicing for a few years… until, slowly, life got in the way. I drifted from laughter and, with time, found myself facing waves of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. It wasn’t easy. But when laughter found its way back into my life, I realised it was never “just play.” It was medicine — for my body, my mind, and my spirit.

Then came Lovefest 2023, my first ever camping festival. I didn’t know what to expect, but what I found was pure connection: warmth, community, and an overwhelming sense of belonging. That weekend reawakened something in me. Surrounded by so much love and openness, I thought to myself, “Why did I ever stop laughing like this?”

Laughter and play are my medicine. They help me heal physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Since that moment, I’ve felt deep gratitude for the Lovefest community for welcoming me so openly and helping me reconnect with myself. That’s why coming back to Lovefest in 2025 feels so special — it’s my chance to give back, to share laughter and love in return.

These days, nothing lights me up more than seeing someone’s genuine smile or hearing their unfiltered laugh. I truly believe that just 10 to 15 minutes of laughter a day can transform your health, your energy, and your sense of connection — not just with others, but with your true and authentic self.

So this year at Lovefest, I’m inviting you to join me for a playful, heart-opening Laughter Yoga session. You don’t need to be funny, or even in the mood to laugh — just bring yourself as you are. Together, we’ll breathe, move, giggle, and let laughter melt the walls between us.

By the end, laughter won’t feel like something you’re doing. It’ll feel like a state of being that you can carry with you, wherever you go.

Come laugh with me. Let’s Laugh More & Live Better — together.
